Hideo Hattori(chuko-shinsyo) The Moko Shurai and Kamikaze Wind ―――The Truth of Wars against a Foreign Country in Medieval Japan Japan fought against a foreign country in 1274 and 1281. That is the Mongol Invasions. It is said that a storm blew and chased away the Mongolian fleet only in one day in the 1274 battle, and that in 1281, all the assembled hostile ships sank to the ocean bottom and were annihilated by a typhoon. People later said that these storm and typhoon were Kamikaze, the divine wind. However, are these stories true? In this book, I critically verified the interpretations of historical records that had formed a basis for these popular stories. I looked over many good historical sources of the same period, including “Moko Shurai Ekotoba” (Illustrated Narrative of the Mongol Invasions), which was commissioned by the vassal TAKEZAKI Suenaga who had participated in the battles. I intend to turn over the firmly rooted historical view of the Kamikaze wind.
